Welcome to my ePortfolio
In Fall 2023, I started my journey at IU. This ePortfolio includes a journey map, my resume, and reflection of my first semester at IU.
About Me
My name is Issatou Diallo
I'm an 18-year-old Muslim woman from Indianapolis, Indiana, and I proudly earned an honors diploma from Pike High School. Two passions define my life: a love for travel and a deep connection to journaling. Traveling allows me to step outside my comfort zone and explore the world, providing me with a profound understanding of diverse cultures and new perspectives. On the other hand, journaling serves as my sanctuary, helping me process my emotions, set goals, and preserve memories.
In 2019, I went to Africa for the first time ever. I was able to see the beauty in the motherland as well as get deeper into my culture. However, this was a degrading time. My cousins and I were very eager to come home, yet we had to stay for a while. Coming back was even harder. I had to move quickly in school in order to be able to attend. I ended up passing and made an even bigger comeback in my next semester.
Now I'm in IUPUI looking for new beginnings and striving to study psychology. My long-term goal as a medical social worker and licensed therapist is to gain advanced certifications in therapy, and eventually work in a leadership position within a mental health facility. I hope to advance knowledge in this specific subject. Through my commitment to this particular profession, I want to make a difference in advancing the field of mental healthcare and guarantee each person receives the kind of compassionate, fact-based care they deserve.
My Major & Career Goals
I'm pursuing a major in psychology and minor in human resources management. My deep interest in understanding the complex nature of human behavior and the functioning of the human mind led me to choose psychology as my major. Through an understanding of psychology, I can investigate the complexities of human emotions, social interactions, and cognition. It's a topic that consistently intrigues me. In addition, I'm thinking of pursuing a minor in medical humanities and health studies to contribute to my career goals. By adding this, I would be able to close the knowledge gap between psychology and healthcare. It would provide me a well-rounded education that would be ideal for my career because it would cover both the organizational and emotional elements of healthcare, lining up perfectly with my career dreams in the medical field.
My current career goals are to become a medical social worker and a licensed therapist. These goals hold great significance for me since they have the ability to significantly improve people's lives at their most difficult moments. My feeling of purpose is greatly enhanced by the thought of providing patients and their families with support, understanding, and direction while attending to their physical and emotional needs. I want to use my wide range of educational experiences as a medical social worker and therapist to help people who are in need. My goal is to assist them on their path to better mental and emotional health, which will ultimately benefit society as a whole. I find personal significance in these job goals since they completely reflect my fundamental values of empathy, compassion, and my great desire to work in a healthcare setting to support others as they overcome difficult life circumstances.
